With everything around us, with all the hardships and trials, the nature of God is often times called into question. But we have a God that we can be thankful for, a God that offers to each of us love and salvation through his gracious and tender mercy. Is there anything greater than that?

This thanksgiving and each day of the year remember you have a merciful, loving God and a beloved savior that sets you free and give thanks for that.

Readings:

Psalm 100 Isaiah 12:1-6 Philippians 1:3-11 Luke 17:11-19

Sermon:

Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men! The Book of Psalms 31:19

Grace, Mercy and Peace from God our Father and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.

Terrible, vengeful, unforgiving, full of wrath…

How…

How is it possible to see God in any other light? In any other way?

Pain, sorrow, hardship, suffering…

We toil day and night in a sinful world living amidst our own inadequacies, our own inabilities. We struggle and fight for everything we have and everything we dream of, given small comforts, and insignificant cliches that are whispered to us in our darkest of hours. Words easier said than done, lessons easier taught than learned.

How often do we cry out to the Lord?

Life can have pain and trials, so much so that it just seems like its too much to bear. We cry out to the Lord and yet they are still there and we are left to wonder, has He foresaken us? Has He forgotten us? We just don’t know what to do. Perhaps in our darkest moments we just think if He has, it might be that we should end it all.

But through it all God is there showing His great love and mercy, His great kindness and love through it all. Never lose sight of that, never lose focus on that. He is there for you.

Readings:

Psalm 77 Nehemiah 9:1-25 Revelation 18:1-8 Matthew 15:21-28

Sermon:

I will cry aloud to God;* I will cry aloud, and he will hear me. Psalm 77:1

I cannot begin to count the number of times I have cried out to the Lord, but I can confidently testify that He has indeed heard me and answered me each time that I did. If He hadn’t, I wouldn’t be here speaking today.

Through the darkest nights of my life, when I felt, as did the psalmist, that the Lord had cast me off forever, I clung to that tiny shred of hope that His loving-kindness had not come to an end, that if I cried out to Him, He would hear me and save me.
